Virginia Schermitzler Obituary

Virginia “Jeannie” Ann Schermitzler, age 88, passed away on June 27, 2021.  She was born on November 6, 1932 in Little Chute to the late Anne and John Hanegraaf.  On May 18, 1982 she married Robert K. Schermitzler; he preceded her in death on February 16, 2000. Virginia loved doing word searches and watching John Wayne. She was very active with her church, Valley Harvest and had been supportive since its inception.  Jeannie was full of love for her family, especially her grandchildren as well as all animals. She was known for sitting on her front porch, giving treats to all the dogs that walked by.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children; Daniel (Deb) Cotter and Paula (special friend Steve Bessett) Manteufel, her step daughters; Laurie (Thad) Willemson and Sandra (Robert) Truckey, grandchildren; Matthew and Nathan Cotter, Ashley (Brian) Vickman and Andrew (fiancée Alicia Whittmore) Manteufel. Virginia is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Bob, sisters; Peggy (Tom) Nooyen, Joyce (George) Schommer and Betty (Bob) Nackers and her brother, John Hanegraaf Jr. She is also preceded by her the father of her children, James Clarence Cotter and an ex-son in law, Mike Manteufel.

Family and friends may gather on Thursday, July 1, 2021 beginning at 1:00pm until the memorial service being held at 3:00pm at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N Richmond St. Appleton. A luncheon will be served at the Valley Harvest Church, 2216 American Dr. Neenah at 4:30, those who were not able to attend the service are welcome to join the family for fellowship.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Rennes Health and Rehab Center for keeping Jeannie comfortable and to Unity Hospice for the wonderful care given to her these last few weeks. Also, a special thank you to Pastor Bidal Torrez and his wife Sherry.
