Monika Mangione Obituary

Monika “Moni” Mangione, 66, of Milwaukee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, held close in the hearts of her children, who walked with her through her final years.

Born on July 17, 1959, in Aschaffenburg, Germany, Moni was the daughter of the late Fredi and Margareta (Brunner) Kandler. Growing up in Germany alongside her brothers and sisters, she created memories that would stay close to her heart forever.

Moni worked on a U.S. military base in Germany, where she met and married a U.S. serviceman, later making Milwaukee her home. With tremendous courage and resolve, she built a new life, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to raising her three children on her own. Everything she did was rooted in love, sacrifice, and determination to give them the very best life possible.

Moni devoted many years of service to the Milwaukee Police Department and Milwaukee County, where she became known for her tireless work ethic, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication.

She brought joy wherever she went. Moni loved music and never missed an opportunity to dance. Her energy, laughter, and ability to make any moment fun left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She also found happiness in traveling with loved ones, relaxing on the beach, antique shopping, and crocheting.

Moni is survived by her children: Juanita Schuelke, Giovanni Mangione, and Jeremy Mangione; grandchildren: Beckham Schuelke, Bennett Schuelke, Soren Schuelke, Xavier Mangione, and Madeline McDowell; and siblings: Marcus Kandler, Dagmar Kolb, and Ursula Yardley.

In addition to her parents, Moni was preceded in death by her siblings: Fredi Kandler, Lars Kandler, and Claudia Kühnass.
