Luke J. Petit

Luke Petit, age 64 of Appleton, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2023 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. He was born on May 18, 1959 in New London, WI to the late Raymond and Helen (Mackowiak) Petit. On May 19, 1979 he married Brenda Ostrander, they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary together at Froedtert. Luke worked for Thilmany Pulp and Paper for several years. He enjoyed bike riding, playing tennis, cross country skiing and golfing. He also enjoyed watching the Packers and the Brewers play, offering his coaching to the TV on several occasions. Luke enjoyed woodworking and was quick to make any piece of furniture his kids were looking for; also repairing anything that needed fixing. He enjoyed gardening, and when he decided to plant grass in his garden, he just went on gardening at his daughters’ houses. In recent years, after retiring, he spent a lot of time caring for the grandchildren, they enjoyed many days of shooting hoops with grandpa. He was the best husband/dad/grandpa ever, and will be so missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda, daughters; Adele (Michael) Petit-Patterson, Sarah (Thomas) Melzer, Sharon (Mitch) Hoffmann and Amber (Chris) Waller, grandchildren; Gabriel, Greta, Caitlin, Ava, Hunter, Ella, Lilly, Isabelle and Christopher. Luke is further survived by his brothers; Lyle (Marsha) Petit and Leon Petit, sisters; Lunette (Mike) Pohlman and Lea (Jim) Walters, sisters in law; Dorothy Petit and Carla (Roy) Kester, brothers in law; Jeff (Polly) Ostrander and Barry (Sandy) Ostrander, mother in law, Elaine Ostrander as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, father in law, Donald Ostrander, infant sister, Patricia Petit, brother, Larry Petit and sister in law, Denita Tabor.

Family and friends may gather on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St Appleton beginning at 9:00am until the memorial service held at noon.

Luke’s family would like to thank the EMT and first responders from Appleton, the nurses at Froedtert Hospital as well as their Child Life group and Ashley from Versiti Donor program for all of the wonderful care and compassion shown to Luke and his whole family.
