Louis Mauthe Obituary

Louis O. Mauthe, 90 died peacefully at home with his loving wife Betty at his side on July 8, 2021. Lou was born on January 25, 1931, to the late Otto and Helena (Lamers) Mauthe. Lou was the second youngest of 10 children and has one surviving sibling, Beatrice Greb, Austin, TX. Lou was 1949 graduate of Appleton High School.

On May 24, 1952, he married the love of his life, Betty Madison at St. Therese Catholic Church. Lou and Betty recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

Lou worked for Wisconsin Wire Works for many years along with other jobs but his most memorable and proudest was when he opened his own carpet and upholstery service which he retired from in 1995. He served in the National Guard and was a founding member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, was a charter member of McDowell male chorus, a volunteer at St. Joseph Food Pantry, and Boy Scout Leader. Additionally, Lou was “coach” for 46 years to hundreds of junior bowlers at Super Bowl. Following their retirement Lou and Betty traveled, golfed, delivered food to Neopit, brought communion to several area nursing homes, and just enjoyed their time together.

Lou and Betty have five children, Deborah, (Bob O’Donnell), Robert (Carmela), Richard (Karen), Catherine (Mark), and Cynthia (Keith). The family grew to include eight grandchildren, Brian, Kelly (Matt), Alison, Rachel (Dan), Benjamin (Jenny), Kelsey, AJ (Josh) and Kristy (Wes) and eight great-grandchildren, Bella, Sophia, Tyler, Libby, Audrey, Celia, Gracie and Wesley. Lou loved his devoted wife Betty and his family more than anything.

Lou was a devote Catholic and his life will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Thursday July 15th. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM prior to the funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Fr. Jim Lucas will officiate.

If you are unable to join Lou’s celebration, spend your day with a smile on your face, a good joke to offer someone who may need a laugh and a kind heart for all of your days. This is how Lou lived his life.
