It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of LeRoy Henry Sauer of Appleton WI, on Sunday November 14th, at the age of 91 years old.
LeRoy was born July 13 1930, in Neenah, WI. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Sylvia Sauer (Hoffmann) and his daughters, Linda Knapton and Sandra Sauer. Also, 3 sisters, Barbra Ann Zemke (Sauer), Carol Delares Basler (Sauer) and her husband Altman Harold Baslar, Sharon L Krepline (Sauer) and her husband Gerard Krepline. His parents were Henry Carl Sauer and Marie Joan Sauer (Muthig).
LeRoy is survived by and will be dearly missed by his sons Gary Sauer and Tom Sauer and by his granddaughter, Jennifer Knapton, brother-in-law, Richard Zempke (Barbra).
LeRoy attended Neenah High School grades 9-12, graduated 1949. He worked at Bergstroms 1949-1950, Badger Globe 1950-1951, Banta’s 1951-1952.
On September 25, 1952 LeRoy married Sylvia Hoffmann and worked 40 years at Appleton Papers from 1953- 1993 from where he retired. LeRoy had a great sense of humor and his passion was to make people happy. Even though he struggled with a 75% hearing loss, when asked how he was doing he would reply “Better now that I’ve seen you”. Reading their smiling faces would make his day. He enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling, especially his trips to Hawaii and Florida. He was a member of the National Guard, 32nd Division for 3 years. In 1948, when he was 18, 2 best friends and he took a 355 mile bicycle trip from Neenah WI to Carney MI on HWY 41 which is now HWY OO. He was a Charter Member at St Thomas More Church where he enjoyed ushering and helping with bulletins and bingo nights.
Visitation will be Friday December 3rd, 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Valley Funeral Home in Appleton, WI; Saturday December 4th, St Thomas More Church, Appleton, WI. 9:00 am followed by mass at 11:00am; Entombment at Appleton Highland Memorial Park, 1:00pm.
