Kenneth L. Fritsch

Kenneth L. Fritsch, age 77, passed away on June 26, 2026, at Froedtert Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of service, compassion, and love. He was born in Appleton on August 12, 1948 to the late Leo and Betty (Alberts) Fritsch.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Ken faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969 aboard the USS Hancock as a radar operator. His service remained a source of great pride throughout his life, and in 2025, he was deeply honored to participate in the Old Glory Honor Flight, an experience he treasured.

On August 8, 1970, he married the love of his life, Mary Galassie, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Menasha, beginning a marriage built on devotion, friendship, and enduring love. A true romantic at heart, he found joy in life’s simple moments, such as watching Hallmark movies with Mary, sharing his white cheddar popcorn and Dr. Pepper with her, creating many more lasting memories through the years they shared.

For nearly four decades, Ken dedicated his career to the City of Appleton Parks and Recreation Department, where his love of the outdoors and commitment to serving his community were reflected in his work. He believed deeply in caring for the earth, long before it became commonplace. An avid environmentalist, he was passionate about recycling, conservation, and leaving the world better than he found it.

His curiosity knew no bounds. He was fascinated by history and spent countless hours reading, collecting fossils, admiring dinosaurs, and model ships and trains. He found wonder in the stories of the past and never stopped learning.

An accomplished runner, Ken embraced challenges with determination and perseverance. He proudly completed the Boston Marathon and the grueling Chicago 50-Mile race, accomplishments that reflected both his discipline and adventurous spirit. In retirement, he found peace camping on his own land, tending to his yard, and simply enjoying the beauty of nature that he worked so hard to protect.

A devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, game days were always something to look forward to. Yet, more than any hobby or accomplishment, Ken will be remembered for his extraordinary kindness. He possessed a gentle soul, a generous heart, and a genuine concern for others and for the world around him. He lived with humility, treated everyone with respect, and quietly made life better for those fortunate enough to know him.

Ken’s legacy is one of service, stewardship, curiosity, and unconditional love. Though he will be deeply missed, his example reminds us to care for one another, cherish our world, and find joy in the simple things.

Ken is survived by his wife, Mary Fritsch; children: Stacey (Mark) Babbitt, Pat (Caitlin) Fritsch; grandchildren: Austin Babbitt, Kayla, Karina, Kaden and Kira Fritsch; siblings: Paul (Susie) Fritsch, Donna (Michael) Henschel; sister-in-law, Beth Fritsch; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Betty Fritsch; and siblings: Debbie Fritsch and John Fritsch.

Per Ken’s request, a private family graveside service and celebration of life will be held.
