Indulis Zempurs, 94, of Appleton passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021. He was a loving son to Vilis and Erna Zempurs and a caring brother to his sister, Aija.
Born in Latvia on October 9, 1926, he was destined to happily spend his early boyhood as the son of a railroad stationmaster and, sadly, his late teen years as a conscripted soldier during the absorption of the Baltic countries by the Soviet Union.
His reunion with his family took place in Germany from where they came to America. They settled in Appleton to be close to relatives and to rebuild their own lives in peace.
During the 1950's Indulis served in the US army, proudly became a US citizen and returned to Appleton to work at the Appleton Wire Works as did his father.
Though his compassion and support for veterans and the services was constant, the desire to explore every state in the US combined with another passion, skiing, led to many adventures and an amazing collection of slides he loved showing to family and friends. He continued his downhill skiing into his late 70's when he resumed another interest, collecting stamps,
due to his diminishing health. While resting in hospice care, on February 19 he passed on into a new and peaceful journey.
He is survived by his sister Aija Ramos (Jim), nieces Ardelle Symonds and Audrey Allen, his goddaughter Asja Graper and her daughters Tavja and Kira and the many caring neighbors and hospice workers who looked out for his needs and comforted him.
