Charles Sahr Obituary

Charles Joseph Sahr was born in Chicago, IL on October 17, 1945, and was born to eternal life on November 15, 2021. Chuck was surrounded by the love of his family as he battled Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease.  He was preceded in death by his father Rueben Sahr and mother Anna (Daniel) Elvins.

He met his bride, Henrietta Haluska of Carney, MI, while she was living with good friends, the Czarnik family, in Chicago in the home two buildings from Chuck.  Love blossomed and they were married on April 15, 1967. He worked for the Chicago Police Department; starting at the age of 18 as a cadet and became a police officer at age 21.  He worked in Chicago until 1969 at which time he and his wife and young son moved to Appleton and then joined the Appleton Police Department in April of 1969.  “Charlie” served the City of Appleton with respect and pride.  This was shown by his meticulous uniform and the high level of standards he demanded from himself and others.  He held several positions on the Department and advanced to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in January 1999.  Retirement didn’t last long as he returned to the Department as the accreditation manager for a couple of years.  Then, when he retired again, he drove school bus for a few more years and finally decided to enjoy retirement life and spend time with Henrietta and family.

Chuck enjoyed being on the Pistol Team with his co-workers and had quite a good aim. As a hobby, he was a skilled wood and chip carver.  His chip carvings were always an amazing piece of artwork.  With this hobby, he was able to spend time with his brother Jim and give cherished presents to family and friends.  With Henrietta by his side, they were fortunate to have traveled the world and 46 states.

Chuck’s priority was his family.  There was always a twinkle in his eyes when his children and grandchildren were mentioned.  He enjoyed spending time and working on projects with each of them. He beamed when he met his first great grandchild just a few weeks ago.  Charles was proud to be called Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Uncle, God Father, and friend.  He cherished the friendships he had with all his family and friends.

Cherished was his family including wife of 54 years, Henrietta; son Charles (Vicki) of Menasha and their children Natasha (fiancé Artem) and Jacob (Michaela) with their daughter Scarlett; son Kristian (Mary) of Neenah, and their son Elias; son Jaret (Wendy) of West Allis, and their son Ezra;  brother David (Joyce – deceased) and their daughter Jennifer; sister Maryann – deceased (Al) Karaczun; brother Jim – deceased (Nadeen) Sahr, and their children Kathy (Tom) Prete and Thomas (Lacy) Sahr.  Also, the brothers and sisters of Henrietta that have made his life more meaningful: Shirley – deceased (Richard) Shampo, John – deceased (Carol) Haluska, Frank (Suzi) Haluska, Sally (Bob - deceased) Schroeder, Angie (-Joe) Kyano, Katie (Bob) Pietsch, Sandy - deceased (-Rufus Smith - deceased)(-John) Freiburger, Steve (Pam) Haluska; along with numerous nieces and nephews (great, and great great) - each and every one being very special.

Visitation will begin at 9:30am and Celebration of Life Service will start at 10:30am, on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Valley Funeral Home, Appleton, WI.  Gravesite services and entombment will follow at St. Joe’s Cemetery.

A special note from Chuck and Henrietta: “Thank you to our family, all the Czarnik family, the many friends and co-workers for the love and support over the years.  Each and every one of you has made our lives most enjoyable.”
