Alfred O. Gresl, age 86, passed away at Touchmark in Appleton, on November 18, 2021. He was born on November 5, 1935 in Whitelaw, WI, son of the late Alfred and Emily (Winter) Gresl. On June 7, 1958 he married his sweetheart, Carolyn Feldhahn at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. They were married 63 years. He served his country by joining the Wisconsin National Guard. He was called to active duty for the Berlin crisis in 1961. Al was a long time member of the Appleton Moose Lodge and a past President of The Appleton Bowling Association. He worked for the Marathon Corporation/American Can Corporation/James River Corporation retiring in 1997 after 43 years of service. Al was a long time usher and money counter for Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and a good game of Sheepshead. Most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren and spending time at his cottage on Loon Lake in the Shawano area.
Al will be missed by his loving wife, Carolyn; loving children, Jeffrey (Sharon) Gresl, Julie (Kevin) Pahnke and James Gresl; his grandchildren, Brian (fiancée Kirsten) Gresl, Brandon Gresl, Brittany (Mitchell) Bloom, Lauren (Dan) Kaiser; great grandson, Finn Kaiser. He is further survived by sisters, Shirley Verkuilen and Doris Gresl, a brother, Walter (Jackie) Gresl and sister, Betty (James) Biese, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, William and Kathleen Ault. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Emily, and infant sister, Mary and a brother-in-law, Duwayne Verkuilen.
The funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church, 912 N. Oneida St. Appleton. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10am until the hour of service. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
