Kathleen Florence (Schmitz) McDermot

Kathleen Florence McDermot, 84, died Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Grand Horizons Memory Care. She was born November 13, 1934, in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Joseph and Tecla (Stoiber) Schmitz. Kathleen married Gerald McDermot on June 13, 1953. They celebrated 61 years together before Gerald preceded Kathleen in death on October 15, 2014.

Kathleen worked as an accountant at Wells Manufacturing, Fond du Lac and at AAL (Thrivent) Appleton. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Appleton, where she volunteered her time and talents in the church choir, in addition to helping others in need with church mission trips to Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Kathleen enjoyed participating in community theater in Fond du Lac and was a member of the Silver Foxettes Dance Troupe in Appleton. She loved to garden and was able to pass that love on to her children.

Kathleen is survived by her five children: Geri (McDermot) Bourget, Bob (Maria), Mike (Jennifer), and Lee (Joan) McDermot, and Marta (McDermot) Kolosso (Ken); 10 grandchildren: Stephanie (Warren) Strigenz-lbbotson, Kirsten Strigenz, Logan (Kayla) McDermot, Connor (Stephanie) McDermot, Jonah Kolosso, Ben Kolosso, Ian McDermot,  Keely McDermot,  Andrew McDermot and Brenna McDermot; one great-grandchild Siena Ibbotson; and a sister, Cecilia Molthen. She was further preceded in death by a sister, Betty Mohr.

A Mass of Christian burial for Kathleen will be 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette St. with Fr. James Jugenheimer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 until 11:45 AM, with Mass to follow at 12:00 PM.
