Donald Roy Schmidt, 90, died Wednesday October 31, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born August 5, 1928 in the Town of Center, son of the late Arthur and Hilda (Tiedt) Schmidt. Donald married Judy Remter on November 4, 1956.
Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a long time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Freedom. Donald owned and operated Schmidt Septic. He was a hard working man who would give the shirt off his back to help others in need. Donald enjoyed having morning coffee with his friends, attending auctions with his son, even as far away as Florida. He was honored to fly to Washington D.C. with his fellow Veterans on the Old Glory Honor Flight. Donald’s greatest love was his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Judy; their five children: Linda (Tim) Pomeroy, Donny, Lisa (Jaime) Van Camp, Chrisy (Randy) Gralapp and Michelle (Kevin) Auchue; 10 grandchildren: Nicole (Cody) Kappell, John Pomeroy, Laura (Ryan) Comerford, Elizabeth, Andrew, Abigail, Jacob Gralapp, Nicholas, Emmitt and Ivy Auchue; two great grandchildren: Daman Kappell and Olivia Comerford; a brother Ralph (Donna); two sisters: Audrey Flunker and Judy (Milton) Pelky; and two sisters in-law: Delores and Elaine Schmidt. He was further preceded in death by a daughter Debbie; four brothers: Roger, Reuben, Robert and Jack; a sister in-law Lorraine; and brother in-law Bob Flunker.
Funeral service for Donald will be 4:00 PM on Sunday November 4, 2018 at ST. PETER LUTHERAN CHURCH, N2740 French Road, Freedom, with Rev. Jim Flemming officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:00 until 3:45 PM with the service to begin at 4:00 PM. Military honors will follow at the church immediately following the service.
