Edward Charles Sommerville, 89, of Menasha, died April 10, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. He was born in Oshkosh, October 10, 1928, son of the late Morris Sommerville and Gladys (Danks). Ed married Jeanne Long on April 24, 1948.
Ed founded Sommerville Sign in 1948, with Jeanne by his side. In 1980, he also began selling flags and flagpoles and changed the name to Sommerville Flag in 1995. Ed eventually sold the business to his grandson, Matt Snodgrass. He and Jeanne continued to play an integral role in the company. Ed’s family would like to recognize the example both Ed and Jeanne set by running a business and raising a family side-by-side for almost 70 years.
Ed was a skilled craftsman, hard worker, and a good provider for his family. He loved his country and worked tirelessly in his later years to promote God’s Law.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jeanne; and their four children: Linda (Bill) Bakash, Cleveland, WI; Susan (Thomas) Snodgrass, Menasha, WI; Daniel (Sharen) Sommerville, Wheaton, IL; and James (Amy) Sommerville, New London, WI; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother: Arthur Sommerville, Talus, France; and sister: Joy King, Clinton, WI.
A celebration for Ed will be held Friday April 13, 2018 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, from 9:00 until 11:00 AM. His family will be holding a private service.
