Donald Laverne Spranger

Donald Laverne Spranger, age 84 died peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born on May 5, 1933 in Navarino, Wisconsin the son of the late Clarence and Viola (Conradt) Spranger. Following his education Don enlisted in the Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. While he was stationed in Japan he met and later was united in marriage to Reiko Soniki on March 8, 1956 in Japan. After his time in the military he was formerly employed with Thilmany Paper Company of Kaukauna for over 40 years. Don enjoyed traveling out west, camping, gardening, snowmobiling and reading. But mostly he loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Reiko and four children, Darrell Spranger, Florida; Donald (Debra) Spranger, Kimberly; Diane (Scott) Walton, Appleton and David Spranger, Appleton; five grandchildren, Derek (Megan) Spranger, Kayla (Christopher) Petersen,, Dalton Spranger and Danielle and Olivia Walton, one great-granddaughter, Charlotte, two sisters, Carol and Shirley Spranger and by two sisters-in-law. Don was also preceded in death by a son, Darvin, and by two brothers, Eugene and Myron Spranger.

A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Valley Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Huff officiating. Don’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Military Honors will follow the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Don’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on Poppy Path and Apple Tree Court at St Paul Home for their care and compassion of Don and his family.
